Drawings
Almost all of the work I
do begins as drawing. For me, drawing is more verb than noun. It
is process rather than product. I enjoy drawing. The act of drawing
is an immediate, satisfying and challenging endeavor. It is a way
to see the world and consider the many wonders surrounding us. It
is a way to record observations, moments, ideas and beauty. Drawing
is not only recording ideas, moments, places, players but an intellectual
pursuit questioning what is seen, felt and thought. The vast majority
of my drawings are in sketchbooks, quick ideas or sights that are
more phrases and aphorisms than complete thoughts. I'd love to pursue
many of these sketches further in other materials and in a more
finished form, a painting, print or sculpture. I believe as the
artists of the Italian Renaissance believed, that drawing is the
basis of all the arts.
